The purpose of this site is to try and educate the computer user to the various threats on the Internet that can damage the files and or information on your computer. If the threats do not damage the information they are capable of stealing the information and causing damage to your name, reputation and finances. If you don't know the dangers and how to fight against them it is very hard to prevent them from invading your computers and networks. Some of the problems encountered are not always dangerous but they are very annoying such as Pop-ups, Pop-unders and Spam to name just a few. These are just a few of the problems I would like to address. Let's start with the types of threats you will encounter. |
Pop-ups: Those annoying boxes of information that appear when you go to a site. Pop-unders: Information boxes that appear when you try to leave a web site. Spam: Email that you have not asked to recieve and can't seem to stop. Viruses: A program that makes changes to your files and information you didn't authorize. Worms: Similar to a virus but the main difference is a worm duplicates itself. Trojans: A program built inside another program that allows someone else to control your computer. Phishing: The act of going through the information on your computer to steal IDs, passwords and finacial information for illegal activities. |
